The regional office of the Environmental Protection Agency issued a compliance order to the Kansas Department of Corrections for asbestos removal work done at one of their buildings. The building in question is one of five housing units located at the Topeka Correctional Facility at 815 SE Rice Road. The order faulted the KDC for failure to conduct an asbestos inspection prior to one of several prison dormitory renovation projects in Topeka. Basically, the order puts KDC on notice that when they do any asbestos mitigation work, it needs to be done in accordance with federal regulations that are designed to protect renovation workers and any others who may be exposed to dust or debris from such projects,. No fines are involved. Read More. |
