| Gov. Struggle With Pardons |

Jim Douglas is nearing the end of his tenure as governor having granted fewer pardons per year than any of his eight immediate predecessors. According to data obtained by The Burlington Free Press, Douglas has issued 13 pardons in the nearly seven-and-a-half years he has been in office, or slightly less than two a year. Former Gov. Madeleine Kunin pardoned 12 people during her six years as governor, or two per year. Former Gov. Howard Dean issued 80 pardons in 11 1/2 years, about seven per year, and the late former Gov. Richard Snelling pardoned 32 people over eight years, four per year. Read More. |
