FORT BENTON — Usually incumbents — particularly ones in rural areas — have a pretty easy road to re-election, but this year Chouteau County Sheriff Vern Burdick is in a fierce fight to keep his job. "I'm not surprised, quite honestly, I think competition is good," Burdick said. "It shows how democracy works. People can bring their own ideas to the table and, if they're good, then they can get elected."
