| Corrections Officer Arrested Over Drugs |

The arrest Saturday of a Monroe County corrections officer on charges he smuggled prescription drugs into the county jail is a sign of success, not failure, say officials associated with the Snydersville jail. Matthew Knowles, 31, of Brodheadsville, was charged with seven felonies and two misdemeanors for allegedly smuggling what he thought was Oxycontin — a powerful painkilling narcotic drug — to two cellmates at the Monroe County Correctional Facility. Also charged were inmates Nickolaos Kapsis, 23, and Daniel Petruzzi, 26 — and Petruzzi's mother, Patricia Dru Petruzzi, 58. The Monroe County District Attorney's Office conducted an elaborate sting to make the arrests with the help of a confidential informant and undercover officer. The officer provided the counterfeit drug to the elder Petruzzi, according to prosecutor's court records.
