| Ex-Offenders Welcome At Job Fair |

BATON ROUGE, LA (WAFB) - "Help Wanted" signs are out at several Baton Rouge businesses, but some people say they're still not hearing the magic words "you're hired" and it has nothing to do with the economy. Hundreds of people walked from booth to booth Thursday, meeting potential employers and filling out job applications. In many ways, it was just like any other job fair, but the glaring difference is this job fair was to help those who have been locked up. "There are a lot of people looking for employment and they already have one strike against them," said Jill Angelle with the Department of Corrections, Probation and Parole. "You can have five to 10 years experience for that job, but when someone else comes in, they don't have a criminal background; they'll get the job before you," said Breneka Collins. Read More. |
