GUAM - A new program could prove to be both safer and more cost effective for the Department of Corrections. Director of D.O.C., J.B. Palacios, looks to implement a new inmate transfer program to the CNMI. The program looks to save taxpayers money since it would cost less to provide for inmates sent to CNMI than it would to keep them here on Guam. DOC Director J.B. Palcaios explains, "Right now its costing the taxpayer of Guam $97.71 per day per inmate. If we can get the CNMI to do that for us for say $75, automatically you're looking at a savings of $22.71 per inmate. If we multiply that by say 100 inmates for an entire year, automatically you're looking at savings, and still being efficient, of around $700,000." Read More. |
