Rockville, Indiana (June 8, 2010) – On Thursday, June 10, 2010 at 10:45 a.m. at the Rockville Correctional Facility, Governor Mitch Daniels will present the commencement address at a graduation ceremony for 28 offenders who have recently completed substance abuse programming at the facility. In 2005, Governor Daniels proposed an aggressive new approach entitled “Meth Free Indiana” to address Indiana’s meth problem. The Indiana Department of Correction (IDOC) responded to his challenge by creating an intensive substance abuse treatment program for incarcerated methamphetamine abusers, known as CLIFF. Clean Lifestyles Is Freedom Forever (CLIFF) is a therapeutic community designed specifically for those whose lives are impaired by methamphetamine. The Willingness, Honesty, Acceptance, and Trust (WHAT) program is a substance abuse program similar to CLIFF but addresses various substance addictions rather than just focusing on methamphetamines. A film crew from the Oprah Winfrey Network has recently been filming a documentary about the women incarcerated at Rockville, with a special interest in the CLIFF program. Following the graduation ceremony, Governor Daniels and Commissioner Buss will offer remarks on the CLIFF program. In addition to the graduates, over 100 other offenders currently enrolled in the program will also be in attendance. WHAT: CLIFF/WHAT Graduation Ceremony WHEN: Thursday, June 10, 2010 at 10:45 a.m. WHERE: Rockville Correctional Facility 811 W. 50 N. Rockville, IN 47872 Media interested in attending the event should arrive at the facility no later than 10:00 a.m. to be signed in and taken through the facility’s entrance procedures. |
