| Man Gets 1 Year For '79 Escape |

Oscar Eugene Richardson, known in the Branson area as Eugene Ward, was sentenced Monday to 366 days in jail stemming from his 1979 Florida prison escape. He walked away from the prison facility after serving more than two years of a three- to 10-year sentence for second-degree armed robbery. He's lived in the Branson area since then. He still faces sentencing for the remaining time he owes the state of Florida. A panel from the state Department of Corrections will make that decision within a month, said Dee Wampler, Richardson's lawyer. Wampler said the panel has a unique scenario to consider. Richardson has lived in the Branson area since the escape, working as a handyman and groundskeeper, starting a family and maintaining a reputation as a model citizen.
