Clarinda, Ia. — The Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation is looking into the suspicious death Monday night of a Clarinda prison inmate who was serving a 50-year sentence. The death of Alfred E. "Buddy" Myre, 44, was initially believed to have been caused by ongoing medical issues, including a prior brain injury from a motorcycle accident, said Fred Scaletta, a spokesman for the Iowa Department of Corrections. However, after further review and interviews, the incident has been referred to DCI investigators, he said. A preliminary autopsy has concluded the cause of death was "blunt force abdominal injuries causing internal bleeding." Myre was found unresponsive at about 7:05 p.m. Monday sitting facedown at a table in the prison yard during an outdoor recreation period, Scaletta said. Myre was taken to Clarinda Regional Medical Center, where he died at 7:58 p.m. Read More. |
