Suspect Released Just Months Ago

WOODSTOCK -- The Maurertown man charged with robbing a Woodstock bank Tuesday was only out of prison on a sex crime conviction in Florida for less than three months when the latest incident occurred, according to online records.

Ronald Luther Cosner, 30, of 24368 Old Valley Pike, was released March 28 from the Florida Department of Corrections, and then registered as a violent sex offender with the Virginia State Police on March 29, records state.

In 2005, Cosner was charged with child abuse, lewd and lascivious assault on a child and contributing to the delinquency of a child by the St. Augustine Police Department in Florida, according to an e-mail from Kevin Kelshaw, the media relations officer for the St. Johns County Sheriff's Office.

On March 24, 2006, Cosner was sentenced to five years in prison for lewd sexual battery of a 12- to 15-year-old girl, the Florida Department of Corrections website states.
