The Topeka Police Department and the Shawnee County Sheriff's Office are teaming up to apply for a federal grant. The Topeka Police Department and the Shawnee County Sheriff's Office are teaming up to apply for a federal grant. The two agencies are eligible for a total of 123,000 dollars. The Sheriff's Department would receive about half that money, and TPD would split the other half with the Department of Corrections. The Sheriff's Office would use the funds to upgrade video surveillance at the Law Enforcement Center. Topeka Police would purchase more in-car video systems and the DOC would computerize controlled access to their buildings. "We're always looking for other opportunities to find grant funding: to find support from other sources. We're trying to find additional funding for training opportunities, to try to get community partnerships and collaborations going for, to try and find some funding for other purposes," says Chief Ron Miller of the Topeka Police.
