| Man Gets 62 Years In Prison |

A frequent felon who killed a Tulsa man while stealing a truck was sentenced Monday to 62 years in prison. In May, William Gary Parris, 37, pleaded no contest to second-degree murder in the death of Stephen Stewart, 62, as well as to six other counts. Stewart was killed July 12 when he tried to stop Parris from stealing his work truck in the 400 block of South 59th West Avenue, police reported. Noting that Parris has been in Oklahoma Department of Corrections custody at least five times, Tulsa County District Judge William Kellough questioned whether the state’s justice system had failed to protect its residents.
