State Trooper Killer In Isolation

One man charged with killing an off-duty Maryland State Trooper is being held in isolation at the Prince George's County jail under constant, recorded video surveillance, despite requests to move him elsewhere for his safety, said Vernon Herron, the Prince George's County's top public safety director.

Herron said the around-the-clock surveillance is in place to protect Anthony Andre Milton II from any attacks at the Upper Marlboro jail.

During Milton's bond hearing June 15, officials from the county Department of Corrections asked that he be held in some other facility as he faces trial. The request was denied by Judge Jean Baron.

Security at the jail has been under scrutiny for the last several years, and at the jail's request, a nonprofit group started a review of jail procedures in October to make improvements.
