| Closing NV Prison Postponed |

The Board of Prison commissioners held an emergency meeting to discuss closing the Nevada State Prison in Carson City. Governor Jim Gibbons ordered a gradual closure of the prison last week. But, Secretary of State Ross Miller called him out on it, saying Gibbons overstepped his authority. However, the board decided to postpone the closure of the prison. A vote the governor doesn't like. Closing the prison is still up in the air, after the board of prison commissioners voted two to one to get more information. "This is what I characterize to be a secret plan, in place that had not been disseminated to the other board members. Secretary of state Ross Miller says. Miller who is on the board says they need the specifics of the proposed plan by the director of the department of corrections. "We're simply not going to close the prison if they can't demonstrate that this is one going to save us money or secondarily result in better public safety," he says. Read More. |
