FREEHOLD — A judge on Wednesday set bail at $3 million for a Holmdel businessman whose murder conviction was overturned by an appeals court on Tuesday. Superior Court Judge Ira E. Kreizman also ordered George Calleia to surrender his passport and not leave the country if he posts bail. Calleia, 48, was convicted of murdering his wife, Susan, 43, whose body was found inside her Lexus sport-utility vehicle in a remote area of PNC Bank Arts Center in Holmdel in 2005. On Tuesday, the state Appellate Division of Superior Court reversed the 2008 conviction, ruling that hearsay statements about the victim's intention to end her marriage were improperly admitted at trial and incorrectly characterized as state-of-mind evidence.
