Fire Hydrant Theft Leads To Charges

On Thursday, June 24, Officers with the DeFuniak Springs Police responded to West Main Street in reference to subjects removing metal pipe, according to a report from DPD.

Officers determined through their investigation that metal pipe and a fire hydrant, valued at $500, was in the process of being stolen. The items belong to the City of DeFuniak Springs. City officials confirmed that the pipe and hydrant were city property and that the subjects did not have permission to remove them. Verbal statements from the suspects were made indicating that they intended to sell the metal as scrap. They also admitted to stealing pipe on an earlier day and selling it for $60.00.
