| Panel Makes No Choice, Costs Money |

MADISON, Wis. (AP) ― A committee that couldn't officially decide which of Wisconsin's two boys' reformatories should close has cost the state about $4,000, according to state prison officials. The 11 members' mileage, lodging and expenses has come to $4,100 since Gov. Jim Doyle appointed them in early April. Doyle, a Democrat, asked the panel to consider ways to improve services to juveniles as offender populations drop, including consolidating Ethan Allen School near Wales and Lincoln Hills School north of Wausau. The committee met six times and toured both facilities. The panel crafted a report recommending consolidation and at a meeting on Monday voted 5-3 to shutter Ethan Allen. Read More. |
