| NJ Reverses Man's Drug Conviction |

PLAINFIELD — In a split decision today, the state Supreme Court has affirmed the reversal of a Plainfield man's conviction on drug charges because a police search exceeded the scope of "reasonable intrusion.'' The Supreme Court voted 5-2 to agree with an appellate court decision that reversed the conviction of Tysen R. Privott, 30. Privott was sentenced March 31, 2006, to five years in state prison after being found guilty of three drug charges. Privott, who is incarcerated at a halfway house, is eligible for parole on July 13, according to the state Department of Corrections. At about 6 p.m. May 13, 2003, Plainfield Police Officer Jeffrey Plum, assigned to the department's street crimes unit, was on routine patrol in the area of Plainfield Avenue and Third Street, an area known for drug activity, according to court papers.
