New Corrections Course At College

Without prisoners, we wouldn`t have prisons. And it takes dedicated professionals to manage them. Their jobs involve a lot more than just policing inmates. And for people interested in entering the corrections field, a first-of-its-kind pilot program will be unveiled at the University of Mary next semester.

Beginning this fall, individuals across the country who are interested in correctional management might find themselves looking to North Dakota. The University of Mary will debut the first program in the field to have been developed in collaboration with the National Institute of Corrections and the North Dakota Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation.

"Rather than take a curriculum and say here, adopt this, we said well what would you like a person to go through this program to look like? We actually partnered with them to say help us to develop and mold this program in a way you would like, so a graduate is graduating with the characteristics and values you would like them to possess," says program director Karel Sovak.
