Prison inmate on trial in white powder scare

The trial of a Conn. prison inmate charged with creating an anthrax scare has begun with testimony from three female clerks in the Bridgeport state's attorneys office.
The three on Monday described the fear created after one clerk opened a letter that sprinkled white powder onto her desk.
The three testified in U.S. District Court in the opening day of Noel Davila's trial for allegedly sending the powder.
The letter was mailed by an inmate from the Cheshire Correctional Institution and arrived at the State's Attorney's Office on Aug. 20, 2002.
The powder was in a folded letter labeled but misspelled as "antrax" and containing the words "a.k.a. Bin Ladin." A second sheet of paper in the envelope contained Hebrew and Arabic writings.
Davila, a reputed Bridgeport Latin King, is serving a lengthy state sentence for drug and weapons charges.
He is accused of threatening the use of a weapon of mass destruction and using the mail to send such a letter.
A resulting State Police, FBI and HazMat investigation resulted in that section of the State's Attorney's Office being closed for two days. The powder tested negative for anthrax.
