CARROLLTON - A judge who found a Greenfield man guilty of aggravated battery in a non-jury trial sentenced him to two years in prison Wednesday for striking a Grafton man who later died. Gary G. Goff, 35, was sentenced by Greene County Circuit Judge James Day. Goff was to have been sentenced two days earlier. However, Greene County Public Defender Tom Piper filed a motion Monday asking Day to vacate the guilty verdict that followed the bench trial, enter a verdict of not guilty or allow a new trial. Day denied the motion. Day heard the evidence and pronounced the verdict in the bench trial, finding Goff guilty of aggravated battery against the late Michael W. Feldman, 27. Evidence showed that Goff struck Feldman on the side of the head with his fist last Aug. 26, causing great bodily harm and severe internal injuries. Read More. |
