| Man Senteced For 15 Year Old Homicide |

A Berrien Springs man was sentenced to spend approximately two years in prison for the death of a Chicago Heights, Ill. woman found dead in the Allegan State Game Area in 1993. Van Buren Hutchison, 45, was sentenced Friday, June 25, in Allegan County Circuit Court for attempted manslaughter in the death of Jeanette Reeves. Reeves’ body was found along the Kalamazoo River in Heath Township, near the ends of 47th Street and 127th Avenue. Hutchison was arrested in July 2009 in Indiana and charged with open murder after an investigation by Allegan County’s Focused Investigation Team. A jury trial began in April, but it was stopped during the second day of testimony after Hutchison agreed to plead no contest to a charge of attempted manslaughter. At the hearing, Allegan County prosecutor Frederick Anderson said he believed Hutchison was responsible for Reeves’ death. Read More. |
