| County Jail Hires Crowding Consultant |

Mercer County freeholders last week approved a consulting contract for a firm tasked with identifying ways to reduce jail overcrowding at the perpetually at- or near-capacity Mercer County Corrections Center. The one-year $55,703 contract with St. Petersburg, Fla.-based consulting firm Luminosity Inc. will last until July 31, 2011. "At one point, our inmate population had burgeoned to the point of having inmates housed in the gymnasium and basement. By moving inmates through the judicial system in a timely manner, we've been able to free up those spaces and inmates currently are held in the designated living units only," said Julie Willmot, a county spokeswoman.
