Parolee Finding It Hard To Stay Clean

Oakland County Prosecutor Jessica Cooper and the Michigan Department of Corrections appear to be doing their best to push Craig LeRoy Atkins back to prison. "It's almost like they want me to start selling drugs again," said Atkins, 52, of Pontiac, who was paroled on Oct. 22 after serving 21 years for second-degree murder.

Just one month ago, Atkins was making more than $26 an hour working for Fed Brothers Construction in Pontiac and attending Baker College of Auburn Hills, where he's studying to become a paralegal.

Now he's out of a job, due largely to some dumb decisions by public officials. Atkins said he's a few days away from a bed at the Pontiac Rescue Mission.
