Three years ago, Montana’s Department of Corrections opened two methamphetamine treatment programs with high hopes of helping offenders get on the right path, one leading away from drug use and drug-related crime. A recent study suggests that officials have created a program that works quite well. The data seems solid and triggers a round of applause here for the programs’ accomplishments. Nearly 300 offenders finished the nine-month program and not one has been convicted of another drug-related offense. “We are very pleased with the results so far and believe they demonstrate that these programs are valuable additions to Montana’s correctional system capable of doing what we told lawmakers and citizens they would do,” said Mike Ferriter, director of the Department of Corrections.
