Helicopters, bloodhounds, deputies and troopers scoured the banks of the Catawba River below the Oxford Dam after two men told officers they'd spotted Xavier Hosea Shaw, 43, near the 450-acre Riverbend Park at about 10:30 a.m. Thursday. Shaw escaped from the Alexander Correctional Institute prison construction site on June 30 by hiding inside a box in the back of a dump truck that was taking a load of construction waste to the county landfill. The two men who spotted Shaw in Catawba County Thursday morning were able to pick him out of a photo lineup, said Sheriff Chris Bowman of the Alexander County Sheriff's Office. Read More. |
