In 1980, Carl Works and his girlfriend drove a woman by the name of Mary Jean Wilson to a rural stretch of road in Exeter Township and stopped. The three got out of the car and words were exchanged. At one point, court documents show, Ms. Wilson, who was a mother of two and 20 years old at the time, was shot twice in the head with a 12-gauge, sawed-off shotgun. Her body then was dumped into a nearby ditch along Colf Rd. A Monroe County jury convicted Mr. Works of first-degree murder, and he was sentenced to serve life in prison without the possibility of parole.
