WILKES-BARRE -- The hiring policy at the Luzerne County prison will be revised to require all candidates to have a valid driver’s license after the revelation that a correctional officer employed since around 2006 is not licensed, the prison board said Monday. Warden Joseph Piazza said he just learned of the guard’s status last week during a casual conversation with other prison employees. The issue is a concern, he said, because guards sometimes must transport prisoners. Piazza said the guard, whom he declined to identify, lost his license due to traffic violations. He said the guard advised prison officials he did not have a license when he was hired. The board voted unanimously to alter the policy.
