| Wisconsin Early Release Raises Issues |

GOP gubernatorial candidate and Milwaukee Co. Exec. Scott Walker (left) scored the endorsement of the Milwaukee Police Association Wednesday during a press conference in which he called upon the state's Early Release Commission to deny the release of a convicted cop killer who's up for a parole hearing next week. Walker acknowledged the state's early release program for prisoners convicted of non-violent offenses does not affect the case of Ben Sanders, who shot and killed two Milwaukee police officers in 1973. But Walker used it to highlight his opposition to program. He said prosecutors, judges, family members of victims and others should have the comfort of knowing that a sentence should be “exactly the amount of time that that convicted felon serves in prison.” Walker said the program erodes truth-in-sentencing legislation that he backed while in the state Assembly.
