Deputies are searching this morning for three inmates of the Liberty County (Texas) Jail who overpowered an officer and escaped overnight. They are considered dangerous. A spokeswoman for the Liberty County Sheriff's Department said that around 1 a.m., the trio subdued the officer in a struggle, forced him to strip and locked him in a cell. Although bruised, he was not seriously injured. One of the prisoners was a burglary suspect, and the other two were being held for the U.S. Marshals. Their suspected crimes were unknown. The Texas Rangers and dogs from the Texas Department of Corrections have been called in, and police from all Liberty County towns have joined the search. |
