The Los Angeles Police Department is asking the state Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation to review its parole procedures, after it was determined that a parolee who fired at officers over the weekend had gained early release. In a letter to Corrections Secretary Matthew Cate Wednesday, LAPD Chief Charlie Beck expressed concern that 28-year-old Javier Joseph Rueda had been placed on "non-revocable parole" in May after serving just two years of a 10-year prison sentence on firearms and other charges.
