| Businessmen Indicted For Prison Scheme |

Four years and one month after the FBI raided the offices of a Gainesville businessman, he and another local man have been indicted on federal charges of paying kickbacks to former high-ranking state prison officials. In return, the indicted men were apparently allowed to operate a mostly cash canteen business in Florida's prisons. The businessmen - Edward Lee Dugger, 63, of Gainesville, and Joseph Arthur Deese, 37, of Fort White - were indicted on a conspiracy charge, according to the federal court records. Dugger was also charged with extortion. Dugger and Deese appeared in federal court in Jacksonville on Thursday morning before being released on $50,000 bonds. Read More. |
