MORGANTON -- Investigators suspect an inmate, known for his gang affiliation, ordered a hit on a fellow inmate in April. Then Wednesday, another inmate, affiliated with the same gang, attacked a prison employee. Joseph Anthony Bishop, 20, of Hudson, incarcerated at Foothills Correctional Institute, was indicted for felony assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury and possession of a weapon by a felon. Burke County sheriff’s detective David South said Bishop is a high-ranking Folk Nation gang member. Investigators believe he told fellow inmates Donald Duane Williams and Dustin Matthew Jordan to attack inmate Tyquan Deberry. Both Williams and Jordan also were indicted for the same two charges as Bishop. The suspects are accused of fashioning two crude weapons out of a screw, a nail, dental floss and cardboard from toilet paper rolls, South said. Deberry was stabbed 17 times, but declined to press charges. Read More. |
