| Jail Budget Now Showing Surplus |

WINCHESTER -- The regional jail ended the fiscal year better than expected. But more expenses may lie just around the corner. Superintendent Bruce Conover updated the jail authority board Thursday on the Northwestern Regional Adult Detention Center's financial situation at the end of fiscal 2010. In March, jail officials feared that state cuts and increased expenditures could leave the facility with a budget shortfall of $367,144. Also that month, the authority planned to reduce its fund balance to $788,790 to help make up the shortfall. But Conover explained that, according to the latest estimates, the jail will come out ahead by $79,021 in its recent budget. The fund balance will remain at $1.1 million, Conover said. Read More. |
