SALISBURY -- For the past eight months, George Kaloroumakis has been working as the interim director of the Wicomico County Department of Corrections. On Tuesday, the County Council may remove the acting tag, officially making him the next director of the 635-bed jail. Kaloroumakis has 32 years of experience in corrections. From 1998 to 2005, he was the assistant warden at the Eastern Correctional Institution, a medium-security state prison in Westover. He also worked as ECI's acting warden for a five-month period in 1999. The County Council is also scheduled during Tuesday's meeting to vote on extending the county's burn ban. County Executive Rick Pollitt Jr. issued a temporary ban on outdoor burning July 7 in response to back-to-back days of 100-degree heat, a time during which multiple fields in the county caught fire.
