| DOC Denies Violations Of Inmates' Rights |

According to Human Rights activist Dr. Diane Strong, "We deeply feel that the rights of DOC inmates have been grossly violated and that their treatment within the Adult Correctional Facility is nothing less than cruel and unusual punishment." Dr. Strong together with families members of those who have been incarcerated at that the Department of Corrections, held a peaceful demonstration in the public hearing room at the legislature. The groups wants a safe working environment for all correction officers and equal treatment for all its inmates. In addition, the group wrote four resolutions, their first concern involves, inmate Allan Feranco who was murdered at DOC on May 19, 2010 Dr. Strong says, "We ask that the investigation into the murder of inmate Feranco continue without delay before all important details and evidence have been lost, discarded or misplaced." Strong believes there was a cover up, but Director of Department Of Corrections JB Jose Palacios is unsure where Strong is getting her information.. According to Palacios, "Unless Miss Strong knows something that we (DOC) don't know, she may want to come forward in this investigation. Palacios says, "The Guam Police Department investigated the case, an autopsy was done and the Office of the Attorney General was satisfied with everything." Read More. |
