Onetime convicted murderer Loren Herzog, formerly of Linden, will be paroled to San Joaquin County after all, California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation spokesman Luis Patiño said Monday. The department's first plan had been to send Herzog, 44, to Modoc County, but that county's sheriff protested. State corrections officials then selected Tehama County for his release. But Tehama County Sheriff Clay Parker said he called state prison officials, telling them Herzog didn't belong in his community. "The only place that guy belongs is on death row," Parker said.
