Springfield, Ill. — The former Olney resident accused of attempting to blow up the federal courthouse in Springfield will be appointed another attorney who doesn't frequently work in the building. U.S. District Judge David Herndon granted Michael C. Finton's request Tuesday. Finton argued in a motion that his court-appointed attorneys might have a conflict because they often work in the Paul Findlay Federal Building Finton he allegedly tried to bomb Sept. 23. Herndon will appoint an attorney from the southern district of Illinois — where he's from — to work with Finton's lawyers. Thirty-year-old Finton is accused of trying to blow up the courthouse with a van he thought was packed with explosives. It was outfitted by an undercover agent. Read More. |
