| FL Molester Could Be Set Free Soon |

In 1997, a Titusville man faced more than 300 years in prison after sentencing for 28 counts of molesting a 14-year-old boy and trying to hire a hit man to kill seven witnesses in his trial. By 2007, Thomas Spioch's appeals had whittled down the number of charges of lewd and lascivious battery to eight and his sentence to about the same length of time that he'd already served. Officials thought he was too dangerous to set free, so they called on the Jimmy Ryce Act to try to hold him longer. In court today, however, prosecutors are expected to say that expert opinion on 52-year-old Spioch's mental health has changed -- and it might no longer support his detention at the Florida Civil Commitment Center.
