NEW CUMBERLAND - After incarceration since Aug. 8 of 2009, a 30-year-old Wellsburg man began a 1- to 3-year sentence Wednesday in the West Virginia Penitentiary on charges he had sex with a minor female. Robert Lloyd Baxter of Reeves Drive was convicted of the felony offense of attempt to commit sexual assault in the third degree. Assistant Prosecutor David F. Cross presented the case before Judge Martin J. Gaughan of the Circuit Court of Hancock County. Cross said the charges against Baxter stemmed from an incident which occurred on Aug. 7, 2009, in Weirton, when it was alleged that he attempted to, and did have sexual intercourse with a 14-year-old girl. Baxter will be required to register as a sex offender the rest of his life. Read More. |
