| Kilpatrick Now In General Population |

Detroit -- Kwame Kilpatrick has obtained permission from a judge to mingle with the rest of the inmates at Milan's Federal Correctional Institution. U.S. District Judge Nancy G. Edmunds issued an order released on Wednesday that drops restrictions keeping the former mayor of Detroit in secluded cells and away from general prison population. Kilpatrick had been kept in isolation in state prisons since his sentencing in May to 18 months to 5 years for violations of his felony probation stemming from the text message scandal. He was moved last week into federal custody after being charged with 19 counts for federal fraud and income tax violations. About 45 miles west of Detroit, the low security prison has separate facilities for convicted inmates and those, like Kilpatrick, awaiting trial on federal charges. Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab, the 23-year-old Nigerian accused of trying to use a bomb hidden in his pants to blow up an airliner bound for Detroit's Metro Airport on Christmas Day, also is being held in the facility.
