Havelock police took a wanted Johnston County man into custody Thursday evening in Morehead City, hours after he fled from a checkpoint. Louis Melvin Hill, also known as Lewis Melvin Hill and Zipper Hill, 42, of Smithfield, has warrants for his arrest in Johnston County and now has charges against him in Havelock. Hill was arrested around 5:15 p.m. Thursday in Morehead City, Havelock Police Chief G. Wayne Cyrus said. Havelock police were conducting a driver’s license checkpoint at 6:20 a.m. Thursday on Greenfield Heights Boulevard when officers saw a black Nissan truck stop short of the checkpoint.
