| MS Sheriff Wants To Build Prison Farm |

LAUREL — The success of the inmate garden in Jones County has Sheriff Alex Hodge preparing to move ahead with plans to establish a penal farm on Highway 11 near the Jones County Adult Detention Center. “We’ve had an outstanding harvest,” said Hodge. “We’ve filled four 20-foot freezers and a walk in freezer. We have enough fruit and vegetables put up to take us through the winter months.” According to Hodge, the inmate’s self-maintained garden which was planted in April, has already saved the county an estimated $40,000 in food costs.
