| More Study Needed Before New Jail Built |

GATESVILLE (July 26, 2010)--In spite of overcrowded conditions, commissioners in Coryell County decided Monday to set aside plans to build a new jail until more information can be gathered about how much it would cost to operate a new facility. . The effort to build a new jail has been on commissioners' agenda for several months, but on Monday the court asked the sheriff to gather additional information about operations costs. County Judge John Firth told News 10 the jail administrator, Kenneth Greene, will take the architect's plans to the Texas Jail Standards Commission, in Austin, to seek counsel about how best to organize staffing in the new jail. Firth said he is hopeful the data can be returned to commissioner's court in mid August and the court can go ahead with its planning. Read More. |
