![]() I admit that it is a bit unorthodox, but I can imagine a wildlife documentary featuring bullies as the topic. Can you see the title? Bully – the adaptable predator! Think of the rich voice of Morgan Freeman narrating this unusual tale of reverse anthropomorphism. It could go something like this: Bullies are among nature’s most successful and diverse species. They are wide ranging and have penetrated into every ecological niche. Their predatory ways are recorded deep into history. Though commonly thought of as pre-adolescent lunch money thieves, bullies run the gamut in survival tactics. Highly adaptable, bullies can employ one or more of the following in order to snare prey: psychology, force, celebrity, computer applications, money, the pack, and intellect. Bullies are the adaptable predator. Pulling away from the nature show variety of delivery, we need to consider the wide variety of bully tactics. You will find bullies, quite naturally, in the form of the thug who pushes weaker people around. And some will intimidate in groups. But, let us not overlook the tragic but true stories of those who were actually aggravate to death by bullies. One needs to look no further than the recent news story of a mother who posed as teenage boy online. She flirted with her daughter’s rival then betrayed the target. All of this was done with no human contact. Tragically, it ended in the girl’s suicide. It is true that some bullies may mature and evolve into well adapted, model citizens. However, many pre-adolescent habits of many bullies persist and are brought into the work place. Bully stories are all around us. Bullies pose serious hazards in the corrections workplace.
