Michael Pacheco has been selected as the new Warden at the Wyoming Honor Farm in Riverton, according to Wyoming Department of Corrections (WDOC) Director Robert Lampert. Pacheco will begin the position August 16. He succeeds Warden Ken Keller, who retired from the department in July. The Honor Farm is a minimum custody facility with a capacity for 280 male offenders. Facility staff consisting of over 70 security and non-security positions plus contracted health care professionals are dedicated to the development of a strong work ethic, offender programming and transition planning. Born and raised in Rawlins, Pacheco began his Wyoming Corrections career in 1992 after having honorably served for four years in the United States Marine Corps. He spent nearly 14 years rising through the WDOC ranks at the Wyoming State Penitentiary in Rawlins, followed by three years of service as the Associate Warden of the Wyoming Honor Conservation and Boot Camp in Newcastle. He is currently the Deputy Warden for the Wyoming Medium Correctional Institution in Torrington, where he has been instrumental in developing operational procedures, hiring staff and coordinating the process of transferring inmates to the new facility in January 2010. "What sets Mike apart is his proven leadership ability, his teamwork orientation, his ethical standards and his sound decision making ability. His thorough understanding and support for the WDOC vision is bolstered by his many years of internal experience in a variety of settings and roles," Lampert said. "I feel very fortunate and grateful for this opportunity," Pacheco said. "The Honor Farm is a good facility with good staff. They've been an established facility since 1931, and are clearly doing an excellent job of helping offenders re-enter society as productive, law-abiding citizens. The specialized mission and agricultural component of the Honor Farm will be something new and different for me, and I'm excited about that." Pacheco holds an Associate of Applied Science degree. He is also a certified Correctional Executive through the American Corrections Association and is a trained correctional auditor. Joining Pacheco in Riverton will be his wife Kindra, and their two grown children. |
