Yuma County, AZ August 3 -- A 22-year-old cold case could be solved. A Florida inmate is accused of murdering a man in Yuma county in 1988. Yuma County Sheriff's deputies say on February 24, 1988 Efren Contreras-Portillo, 29, was found dead in a field, approximately 1.5 miles south of the Palomas bar on Avenue 64E. The investigation into the cold case homicide was recently reopened after information was received concerning a suspect who is currently serving a sentence for sexual battery on a child under the age of 12 in a Florida prison. He has been sentenced to life for that crime, according to the Florida Department of Corrections website. Read More. |
