Medical Records Not Easily Given To Inmates

Harris County jailers do not give inmates copies of their own medical records, a policy a prisoner is challenging in federal court.

Matthew Collazo is in the County Jail awaiting his appeal of a conviction for tampering with evidence in a drug case, according to his attorney, Randall Kallinen. He said Collazo has a skin disorder and a problem with his prostate, and wants to share his jail medical records with an outside doctor.

Under Sheriff's Office policy, no medical information will be given to an inmate or his family before his release if doing so presents a security risk.
