| Lennon's Killer's Parole Faces Opposition From Yoko Ono |

(Aug. 6) -- Yoko Ono will again oppose the release of John Lennon's killer when he goes before a parole board next week, nearly three decades after he gunned down the former Beatle on a New York City street. That's according to comments Lennon's 77-year-old widow made Thursday to the Television Critics Association, where she was discussing a new PBS documentary about the music icon's life in New York in the 1970s. Ono's lawyer also said earlier this week that she's filed a letter opposing Mark David Chapman's parole. It will be the sixth time Chapman, 55, is up for parole since he became eligible in 2000. He's serving a sentence of 20 years to life for fatally shooting Lennon on Dec. 8, 1980. He calmly waited for police beside Lennon's body, confessed to killing him and pleaded guilty to murder. He was also obsessed with the book "The Catcher in the Rye", and carried a copy of it that day, telling police it would explain his motives. Read More. |
