| Budget Woes Troubling County |

In the midst of summer budget preparations, approximately $625,000 separates the Alachua County Commission and Sheriff Sadie Darnell. Two moves Darnell and the Tax Collector's Office have separately suggested to fill part of that gap have caused consternation among county officials, although the County Commission has not yet voted to formally oppose the proposals. Initially expecting a "benign" round of budget negotiations this year, Darnell is now the only elected constitutional officer who has requested time to make a presentation on Aug. 17 when county commissioners review the proposed budgets submitted by the Supervisor of Elections, Property Appraiser, Tax Collector, Clerk of Courts and Sheriff.
